Star Anise Herb

By John Michael

The spice is obtained from an evergreen tree which grows to about 8 m (26 ft) high and is native to southeastern China. It is a very ancient tree belonging to a primitive family. In China, where it was known long before the Christian era, it was one of the most popular of spices along with cinnamon.

We learn about the first hop-fields in Europe from a deed of donation issued by the Frankish king Pepin III 'the Short' in the year 768 A.D. when hops began to be cultivated by monks in the monasteries, where beer was brewed. From that time on the cultivation of hops spread not only in Europe but also in North America, Australia and New Zealand as the consumption of beer grew throughout the world.

The female flowers are used almost exclusively in the brewing of beer, to which they not only impart a pleasant bitter taste but, because of the resin present in the lupulin, also prevent the multiplication of bacteria that cause lactic fermentation which spoils the beer. Tender young hop shoots were at one time eaten as a salad or boiled like asparagus.

The ripe follicles burst on the ventral side to release the single seed contained in each. They are harvested when ripe and then dried. The seeds have a pungent, spicy flavour.'

Star anise is sold in shops both whole and ground, but it is used for flavouring only in powdered form, like anise, chiefly in sweet dishes and coffee-cakes, in plum and pear compotes, and to flavour candies. It is also an ingredient of ground spice mixtures for flavouring pured fruits and tarts. It is a typical spice of Chinese cookery, used chiefly with young pork and duck, and is an ingredient of soy sauce. It is also used to flavour aromatic liqueurs such as anisette.

The flowers appear in late summer and early autumn, which is also when the plant is harvested by cutting the flowering parts that are not yet woody. Because it contains essential oils hyssop should he dried at a temperature not exceeding 35C (95F).

Dance Schools Need To Understand Students

By Sarah Wilkiamson

You should take into deliberation whether the school is in fact geared to young children when looking for a dance institution for your child. A lot of schools admit all ages of students but do not actually pay attention to the particular needs of young students. They can frequently be more business oriented and less concerned in students well being and success.

An obvious indicator is when schools just use their older students to train the young children. The reality of this situation is that younger children probably need the advice and tuition of a professional teacher more so than the older students. The role of a teacher is a science, it isn't just about putting a person in charge of a group.

The teachers have to be knowledgeable in instructing young children and be able to build up a connection with them. Once they do this the child will feel extra confident and learn faster. You must meet up with the teachers at the dance school prior to enrolling your child. Once your child is enrolled at the school you will need to make a good bond with the teacher, so that you can supervise your child's progress.

There needs to be a good balance of fun and dance for young children to really do well. If the class is all dance and no fun they will lose interest. Conversely, if the class is all fun and no dance it's not what you were looking for.

Again, it's a really good idea to take a look at the class yourself before you enrol your child. It will be very easy to pick out a class that doesn't have a good balance. Pay attention to the children and see if they are engaged and enthusiastic. Also pay attention to the way they dance. Kids learn dance best when there is that even balance of dance and fun.

Friendly atmosphere: the learning environment is very important with young children. You will need to check the school and teachers to see that there is a good friendly atmosphere. Children are very sensitive to this and will respond well to a friendly warm learning environment. Many small children will have come straight from home and not be used to formal class settings. It is easy for them to feel stressed and alone when they first start their dance lessons.

You can check out schools by watching recitals and live performances. These are good indicators of the standards of dancers that the school can produce. The live performances will be done by the school's best dancers so you can judge the school accordingly.

Researching a dance school is just like researching a job or purchasing a new car. Don't just make a decision after looking at the first school. Take the time to look at a few options and talk to you child about their own preferences. It's also a good idea to take into account any particular styles that your child might be interested in, so you can concentrate on the organizations that deliver that type of class. It isn't hard to start to get a feel for what you need if you do your homework and consultation.

Pepper

By Charlotte Zander

Burnet saxifrage is a perennial herb up to 60 cm (2 ft) high that was used in cookery long ago but not very often nowadays. The botanical name for the genus is a corrupted version of the Latin word `bipinclIa' referring to the twice-pinnate leaves. It was already known to the ancient Greeks, who called it ckaukalis'.

It is used to this clay as a medicinal plant for its diuretic as well as digestive and expectorant properties. In the Middle Ages it was believed to ward off the plague.

The delicately-scented, mildly pungent leaves with a cucumber-like flavour are used for flavouring. These are eaten as a salad by southern Europeans, the same as the leaves of Burnet (Sanguisorba minor). The young basal leaves are the tastiest if picked before the flower stem begins to grow.

The berries are harvested before they ripen when they are still green or yellow (they are red when ripe) - this is done over a period of several months as the berries ripen in succession. Pepper is the most widely consumed of all seasonings because of its many uses not only in the kitchen but also at the table (no table is properly set without salt and pepper). It is used either whole or ground, by itself or in a wide variety of mixtures for flavouring meat, sausages, fish, soups, sauces, vegetables, salads and so on.

The tree is evergreen and grows up to 13 m (43 ft) high. It has large aromatic leaves up to 10 cm (4 in) long and equally aromatic bark that peels off regularly every year. The small whitish flowers are arranged in terminal clusters. The berries are divided into two chambers with one seed in each. When ripe they are coloured red and lose their aroma. They are therefore harvested while still green, being picked by hand and dried in the sun.

The smooth berries become wrinkled as they dry. A single grown-up tree yields up to 40 kg (90 lb) of dry berries a year. The best allspice comes from Jamaica; it is also raised in Guatemala, Honduras and Brazil. Mexican allspice has larger fruits but they are less aromatic.

Tree Trunk

By Alexander Sea

Like the crown, the root system of various tree species has, more or less, a specific, characteristic shape. This is greatly influenced by the environment, and, in particular, the soil. There is. also a certain correlation between the size of the crown and that of the root system.

The outer live part is called sapwood and this serves as the tree's pipeline for conducting water and other important substances up to the crown. In broad-leaved trees this function is performed by the broad tubular cells, called tracheae, visible in the cross-section as small pores. In conifers these tubular cells are narrower and shorter and are called tracheids.

In the cells and cell walls of heartwood various organic and inorganic substances are stored, e.g. tannins, resins, silicon dioxide, etc. In some trees such as the yew, larch, pine and oak the heartwood is further distinguished from the sapwood by a darker coloration. Heartwood is generally much more durable and of higher quality than sapwood and, in the case of some tropical trees in which the wood is subject to rapid decay and damage by pests, the soft sapwood is hacked off on the spot and only the heartwood is shipped for further processing.

In species which have a high consumption of water the surface roots extend beyond the dimensions of the circle drawn by the crown - as much as fifteen to twenty-five metres from the trunk of a mature aspen, poplar; ash, etc. The depth to which roots grow also varies markedly according to the species.

On the bark we can often see small round or slit-like patches that are slightly raised, and different in colour, from the surrounding bark. These are called lenticels and serve as a path for the exchange of gases between the atmosphere and the living cells inside the trunk and branches.

The symbiosis of mushrooms and woody plants occurs primarily in soils rich in organic substances and raw humus; in soils with insufficient organic matter such a symbiotic association may change to a parasitic one.

Rowan

By James Rowan

Everyone knows this ornamental tree whose masses of white blooms decorate the countryside in early spring, followed in autumn by bright red berries which children string into beads.

Tansy was grown in the herb garden of Charlemagne, and in England it was widely used as a medicinal herb in the days of Elizabeth I.

The tender young leaves combined with eggs were a popular dish called 'tansy', eaten at Easter to celebrate the end of fasting. This custom has survived to this day in the form of Easter cakes and puddings flavoured with tansy leaves.

Rowanberries furthermore have excellent setting properties due to their high pectin content. They are therefore used to make jellies that are an excellent accompaniment to meat and fish dishes. The berries may also be dried without any loss in quality.

The small, oblong, cucumber-shaped fruits or pods (1) contain several rows of seeds or cacao beans (2). These are sweated (fermented), washed, dried and exported. The final stage of processing that gives us cocoa and cocoa butter is done industrially (involving hulling, roasting and grinding).

Tansy may still occasionally be encountered in gardens, where it is generally grown for decoration. The ornamental form T. vulgare crispum is often cultivated. The yellow, button-like flower-heads arc composed only of tubular flowers; female flowers round the perimeter and bisexual flowers in the centre.

Clary

By James Pollock

Clary, a close relative of common sage, is native to southern Europe. The specific name is derived from the Latin word 'clams', meaning clear, bright.

It is a biennial with large leaves and tall stems up to 1 m (3 ft) high, and a good plant for the herb garden because it is hardy and the leaves may be used throughout the winter when fresh herbs are scarce.

In Germany it is used mostly to flavour beans (hence the name Bohnenkraut) and in English and French cookery in stuffing for turkey and roast veal. It is also good with fish and pickled vegetables. The youngest terminal leaflets have the most delicate aroma and are delicious in salads. Savory is also used to flavour sausage meat.

Nowadays they are used to flavour compotes, jellies and jams. They may also be added to flaky pastry. The flowers or extracts prepared from the flowers are also used by the pharmaceutical industry in medicines that stimulate secretion of the sweat glands. The berries have a strong flavour and are used to make jams and juices rich in Vitamin C.

Summer savory is treated as an annual herb up to 30 cm (1 ft) high with stem that becomes woody at the base and branches like a shrub. The linear-lanceolate, short-stalked leaves are dotted on both sides with glands. The flowering period is from July until the frost; the fruits are nutlets.

The seeds are used whole in pickling gherkins and vegetables, in making marinades and like coriander to flavour sausage meat. In England young seedlings are added to green salads. They may be grown readily and rapidly at home from seeds sown in a dish covered with a piece of damp flannel, where they will produce seedlings ready for picking within a week. An annual herb reaching a height of 80 cm (32 in), it is readily distinguished from other mustards by the seeds (1) which arc contained in pods (siliques) terminated by a prominent beak (2,3). They arc straw-yellow in colour and are larger than other mustard seeds. Mustard has a brief growth period and ripening and harvesting depend on the time of sowing. It is harvested when the pods turn brownish-yellow and the seeds harden.

Colours as Garden Features

By Reuben Garden

Colours can be used as garden features in their own right - edging a path with the blue and grey of catmint (Nepeta) or a rose border with the yellow-green of Alchemilla moths (lady's mantle) are good examples.

Hot summer days can be cooled down by the white flowers of Philadelph us and the blues of delphiniums. The pinks of camellias in spring hint at the warm days of summer to come, while the bold flame reds, yellows and oranges of the autumn foliage of Acer and Cotinus can furnish us with memories of warm colours to carry us through winter to what seems a far-off spring. Yellow, gold and white plants can be used as focal points to create vistas that add the illusion of space and distance, and these include the winter stems of birch (Betula) or the golden foliage of the cut-leaved elder (Sambucus racemosa `Plumosa Sitwell"). Such plants can also he used brighten up a dull, uninteresting or dark corner by reflecting what little winter light there is available.

Flowers not only offer colour but also scent, and when the two coincide, the effect of each can be heightened. The appreciation of a particular fragrance is always a personal matter, and what gives pleasure to one may not be detected by another. it is worth remembering, too, that some plants, especially roses and lilies, are expected to be fragrant. In fact, this is not always the case, and if scent is important to you, check that the variety you are proposing to plant is, in fact, scented.

In all the entries in the directory there is an indication of the average height and spread that is to be expected from any given plant over a given number of years. However, it is worth bearing in mind that a plant's development will always be influenced by the conditions in which it is grown.

Silver and grey plants, such as santolina (cotton lavender) and artemisias. arc the ideal foil for most other colours, and they can be introduced to create buffer zones between strong colours, such as reds and blues, and to provide somewhere for the eye to rest.

Different soil types will also provide the plant with different levels of nutrition. and the different conditions will influence growth rates and the overall size of the plant. Poor, impoverished soils will reduce growth levels.

Tomato Herb

By Jonathan Richardson

The tomato as the basic ingredient of various kinds of ketchup it deserves to be mentioned. It is a native of northwestern South America (Peru and Ecuador), where the Incas raised it probably in ancient times, as did the Aztecs in Mexico. In the 16th century the tomato was taken from Mexico to Spain, where its Aztec name `tumantl' was changed to tomato, the name by which it is known in many other languages.

It was also popular in the Middle Ages, as we learn from the records of Hildegarde, abbess at the Rupertsberg abbey in the 12th century, mainly as a medicine for treating a wide variety of diseases. After that it slowly fell into oblivion, surviving only in country gardens, whence it is currently making a rapid comeback.

As a plant of the Mediterranean region marjoram was known to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, who used it not only to flavour food but also prized it as a miraculous herb with the power of healing practically all diseases, especially colds and chills.

Tomato is a perennial herb but is grown as an annual. It is a creeping plant and so is trained up low supports to keep the fruits clean. The method of raising tomatoes has been worked out to the minutest detail and enables very high yields to be obtained (depending on the climate). Though the tomato's use in Europe is fairly recent, this universal fruit, used as a vegetable, salad, flavouring and food colouring, rapidly became one of the most widespread commercial crops in the world. Intensive breeding led to the development of numerous cultivated forms of different shapes, colours and flavours.

Unfortunately the most important commercial varieties, those that bear large, round and regular, smooth-skinned fruits which can be successfully transported, have the poorest flavour. When using them in salads the flavour must be enhanced with vinegar and other dressings.

Majorana hortensis is a perennial, bushy plant growing up to 40 cm (16 in) high that flowers from July to September. It requires a rather light, limy soil, rich in nutrients and moisture. It is grown throughout the whole of Europe as well as in north Africa (Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt). The seeds should be sown in boxes in early spring and the young seedlings moved outdoors to their permanent position when all danger of frost is past. Marjoram may be harvested and used in cooking as spice.

Sumach

By Jimmy Huett

In the Middle Ages the rose was called the 'flower of flowers' and from that time dates the recipe for the then popular dish called `Rosee'.

In Lebanon sumach herb may be seen in front of almost every house, the fruits being dried and ground into a purplish-red powder, or soaked in water and the juice then pressed out. They have a sour and pleasantly astringent taste.

Syrup prepared by mixing honey and rose petals was prescribed for 'the weak, ill, phlegmatic, melancholic and choleric'. To this day rose petals are used locally, particularly in the Near East, as a fragrant admixture to foods and beverages.

The fruits - rose hips, rich in Vitamin C, are used to make a refreshing, slightly sour tea and very piquant marmalade, good by itself as well as added to sauces and roast game. The fleshy hips contain a great many hard, pointed-ovate achenes covered with silky hairs. These must be removed before using the hips in cookery. It is a very tedious task consisting of cutting each hip lenghtwise while still fresh and scraping out the contents.

The juice is used to flavour salads and the powder in various dishes, mainly fish. Sumach herb may also be used with stewed poultry, vegetables and roast meat. Because of its high tannin content sumach is a suitable ingredient in fatty foods, promoting digestion and checking diarrhoea.

Some species of sumach are grown for the tannin-rich leaves used in tanning and dyeing. The related stag's horn sumach (R. typhina) is often grown in Europe as a specimen tree. This is native to North America, the home of many poisonous species such as R. toxicodendron, commonly known as poison ivy. Sumach herb has many uses. Its leaves can be used as a dye. It can be used to add tastes to your cooking. You can grow sumach herb in your herb garden for decorative purpose.

Sewing Machine Foot Control Fixes

By David Trumble

Your sewing machine is an amazing creative appliance that operates on standard household electricity. To control the machine it uses a pedal. You can control your sewing machine by pressing down on the foot control with your foot. The harder you push, the faster the sewing machine runs.

Beautiful things are created when your pedal powers your creative machine.

The sewing machine foot control may be a resistance device, an electronic device, or a air pressure device. Each one works differently. Associated problems are specific to the type of device.

The most common type of pedals are resistance based devices. These use a resistance core often made of Bakelite, levers, and electrical contacts. Problems with resistance devices include general wear; cracks in the resistance core; broken springs, levers, or other mechanical parts; and bad electrical connections.

The flow of electricity to the sewing machine is also managed by electronic types of pedal. These devices use integrated circuits, capacitors, and resistors to manage the electricity. Frequently, electronic pedals develop shorts, or fail to work due to electrical surges; but they also have problems with electrical connections from time to time.

Pressure based pedals use air pressure produced when the user steps on the foot control ballast. This air pressure triggers an electroning pressure switch to control the sewing machine voltage. Typically, the pressure line or ballast will crack or leak making the device useless. Electronics within the sewing machine can also be at issue.

When the foot pedal fails to work, you should first check to make sure the machine is plugged in, turned on, electrical connections are in tact, and electricity if flowing properly.

Here are some tips on how to repair a foot control.

Begin by identifying the source of the problem. Check out the foot control to determine its type and inspect it for the most obvious signs of fault.

Listen to your foot control. When you shake it, do your hear any rattle? When you press down, do you hear any strange sounds like crackling or popping?

If we hear a hum, then the problem is probably not in my sewing machine foot control. If there is no movement and no sound from the sewing machine, my sewing machine pedal is suspect. Try pressing it down and letting up several times. Hold it down for a few seconds. If I still hear nothing and the sewing machine is motionless, it is either the cord or my sewing machine pedal.

Unplug the foot control from the sewing machine. Next open the sewing machine pedal. It has screws on the bottom that I remove. Some have finger catchers on the sides. So I release the catch, and the sewing machine opens.

If you have a resistance based foot pedal, use a TVOM or other tester to check resistance. Check for solid electrical connections.

With the pedal open, check for electrical connections and test for continuity with a TVOM or other meter.

The sewing machine pedal affected by sewing machine power cord. Even when it is separated from the power cord, its cord is an issue. To Fix a Sewing Machine foot pedal requires fixing its electrical cord. Electrical connections inside the sewing machine foot pedal must also be checked and repaired as needed.

Visually inspect for broken pieces, chips, loose parts, and burn spots. If you find loose wires or other problems, make these minor repairs. Some parts can be replaced, others cannot. If you discover, no obvious problems after visual inspection and testing, just replace the foot control. It is often less cost effective to replace the pedal than replace expensive parts inside the foot pedal.

Can You Play Guitar Really Fast?

By Max Campbell

Ultra fast guitar playing reached its heyday in the 1980s when everyone wanted to play fast like Yngwie Malmsteen and others. The craze never really ended, and today guitarists like Zakk Wylde still give guitarists the taste for speed. But how to play guitar really fast isn't that easy to learn, as many teachers can't play so quickly themselves!

You can learn fundamentals that can help you develop the speed you want, and concentrating on each of these will pay-off in the long run. First of all, you want to work on your right-hand technique, your left-hand technique and recognize that practising to build up speed doesn't happen over night. Its not possible to increase speed and fluency by developing just one aspect of your playing. Also, playing fast without accuracy just sounds plain awlful. Left hand proficiency takes time to build up. You need to develop excellent finger and thumb placement, and good finger dexterity and accuracy. The two basic thumb positions used by guitar players are over the top of the fretboard, and resting behind the fretboard. Behind the neck will give you greater reach on the fretboard and better control and consistency. If you practice guitar scales and exercises fast in this beginning thumb position, you will increase your speed in time.

Placing your fingers on the neck in the right positions when you play is vital for speed. Your four fingers should be resting just above the first 4 frets until needed. Keeping your fingers there will help optimize speed when playing scales and exercises, but finger motion is a bit more tricky. Guitarists can either press the finger down when used, and leave it there until it is needed (finger anchoring), or lift each finger as the next one comes down (finger movement), for speed, finger movement is most effective. Finger accuracy involves consistently fretting a note right behind the fret, this improves dexterity. Remember to use the flat part of the finger tips and not the side of the finger. The more discipline you have, the quicker you will become.

Having just one technique down is not enough. Everything you do, from how you hold the pick, to the alternating pattern you use will all have an impact on your speed. Picking can be alternating, sweeping or circular, and should probably be acquired in that order as they increase in complexity as well as speed. One technique is not better than another, it depends on the situation.

How you hold the pick is a matter of taste, but for speed the pick needs to be almost perpendicular to the strings and only using the very tip of the pick to strike the string, in order to decrease resistance. The motion that you use is as important, and you want the motion to come entirely from the wrist for speed, although some people use wrist and elbow effectively. Always avoid using finger and thumb muscles.

To build speed you just have to practise. Set aside a regular daily or weekly time to work on exercises, scales, arpeggios etc, to build speed using these techniques. It's no use having people round; they'll get bored as this practise is very repetitive. Work with a metronome " it's essential to learn to play really fast. Start slowly and increase the speed gradually. Never speed up before you are perfectly accurate at one speed.

With these simple techniques, you can play guitar really fast in no time at all.

How To Buy Junior Golf Clubs

By Golf Fan

If you are into golf, your children are probably going to want to try it once in a while. Children always want to emulate their parents, and that means they are going to find interest in all of the things that they see their parents doing. If the junior's parents play golf, the children are going to show some interest in it. You can always take them to the mini golf range, but they are going to want to try the real thing. Start out by getting them a junior golf club set and then go from there.

When you first start your children out, you want to take them to a store, to get their junior golf club set. Make sure that they sell all types of junior golf equipment. The reason for this is that all children are different heights, obviously, and they all need different lengths. You can make sure they are getting clubs for their junior golf club set that fits their size so they can learn well. If they have the wrong sizes, they are not going to learn a good and natural swing, and that can mean they never adjust right as they grown. That can lead to frustration and a lack of interest in golf later on.

When my husband first got a junior golf clubs for my daughter, he did it one piece at a time. This is something that many moms and dads can do, especially if money is an issue. We got her a golf bag that was just her size, and then bought her just one club. The driver was the obvious choice as the first addition to the junior golf club set that she wanted so badly. That meant she had a bag like daddy, and could go learn to drive first. They went to the driving range together and were both very happy.

If this is something you would like to do for junior golf clubs, you can then do what my husband did next. He slowly bought her one golf club at a time, teaching her what it was and how to use it as they went along playing the game. She only has four at the present time, but she is getting good with each of them. She is still young, but is very proud of her junior golf clubs and cant wait to make more of it. However, the problem is now that she is getting a little taller and we may have to start all over again with a longer set of golf clubs.

You will find that this will be a problem for you when getting junior golf clubs also. If you have more than one kid, you can simply pass them down the line to the youngest. If you have just one, like we do, you may have to find a way to see what you can sell when you have to move up more sizes. If you dont care much about the price, you can always donate the junior golf club set that your child has outgrown to programs locally that get children involved in sports and physical education.

Planting Garden Plants

By Marley Einstein

Putting together all the various elements can be a daunting prospect. Preparing the ground and planting a single plant is straightforward task, but when a large group or even the entire garden is to be planted, the work can seem impossible. however, there are some simple guidelines to follow that can eliminate must of the worry and reduce the effort.

First, draw up a simple scale plan of the garden or border to be planted. On this outline plan draw circles to represent plants to be planted. At the back large circles will show where large plants will go, medium sized circles will go in the centre, and small ones at the front. Make sure that the circles are drawn to scale and that they cover the whole of the area of the plan to be planted.

Every plant needs to obtain a cocktail of nutrients from the soil. In many cases there are only very small amounts of each nutrient in any given area of soil, and even when the gardener adds extra fertilizer, the plant has to seek out these nutrients from a very large area.

It is essential that the soil is broken up to enable the plant's roots to pass easily through it. Before planting, therefore, use a garden fork and spade to dig the whole area to a depth of 50ern (20in). although when you do this, you must make sure that the top 25cm (loin) or so of topsoil is always kept on top of the subsoil.

For a single plant dig a hole lm (about 3ft) across, first removing the topsoil and, if necessary, turf to a depth of 25cm (10in) and storing this on a board alongside the hole. Then the lower 25cm (loin) - more if you can - should be dug over and a good quantity of organic material added. Add some more organic material to the removed topsoil before it is returned to the planting hole.

Take the heights, spreads and the colours of foliage and flowers inte account and group and position the plants according to their expected performance in the garden. The picture will slowly emerge, and you will be able to add the finishing touches, allowing each plant and its companions to have their own spaces. As a reminder, you may wish to make a note on the plan of details of cultivation, particularly pruning, to help you while the plants mature.

Seattle Car Insurance

By Steve Turner

Insurance is for your protection and well-being. That is why Seattle auto insurance is mandatory for every driver and operating automobile. It is especially important because without it consequences are long term. You can't predict what will happen on the road, which is the purpose of investing in coverage. The amount of damage done or number of bills to pay is only insignificant if you are insured.

You need to be familiar with the insurance business and how it works. Utilize your insurer, ask questions and express your concerns. Most people don't know what to do in case of an accident because they weren't educated. The priority is everyone's safety, not the damage done to do the vehicles or objects. In a collision lives are threatened and certain steps need to be taken for your safety.

Most of the time you will need medical assistance; people can be injured internally! Insurance companies suggest you take every precaution and call 911. This is because not every injury is visual; in case of a mishap, your coverage will assist you and your medical status. If you are ever involved in a wreck but in good condition, you need to make sure the others are okay. Assist to those who are bleeding and stop it until professionals arrive to the scene.

Accidents block roads and traffic starts to build up. Blocked roads are a recipe for disaster, it is very hazardous when drivers are preoccupied with something other than their vehicle. Someone needs to be in charge of rerouting cars and helping traffic flow more effectively. Hopefully this will prevent any bumper to bumper incidents.

Every car has hazard lights for a reason. These need to be turned on immediatley, they make it easier to find help. After everyones wellbeing has been cared for the next step is tending to the damages done to the vehicles. You have to report the accident or else the insurance won't be able to step in and contribute. Make your claim and stay on the scene until everything is completed, you don't want any decisions made without you.

No one takes blame for the accident, they point fingers and get heated! It is important to stay as calm as possible and keep your story to yourself. Do all of your explaining to the police officer and use all of your energy to explain what had happened to them, not the other party! The situation is already difficult, do what you can to simplify it.

Don't leave out any details and collect all the required information before anyone leaves! There are certain numbers the insurance company must have to complete your claim! Make the process as easy as possible and do whatever you can to avoid a war!

Tree Information

By Jesse Johanson

Even though the process of civilization has made man independent of nature and raised him to a higher level, yet he is continually aware of the fundamental influence of nature on generations of mankind.

Trees and shrubs are also differentiated according to height. Small trees attain, a height of about eight metres, those of the second category fifteen to twenty-four metres, and those of the first category more than twenty-five metres. The thickness of a tree is usually given by the diameter of the trunk measured at breast height, i.e. 1.3 metres above ground.

The forest provided primitive man with food, fuel and building material, affording him also protection against enemies and the elements. To realize the importance of trees and forests for man, however, there is no need to go so far back into the past. Even our great-grandfathers could say that trees and their wood were man's companions from birth to death - from wooden cradle to wooden coffin. Man used wood to build houses and make furniture, construct household utensils, tools and vehicles, and shape primitive weapons. Until almost the eighteenth century wood was also the only source of heat and energy.

Today, metals, ceramics and plastics made by chemical processes have in many instances replaced wood. But wood's importance and consumption throughout the world is not declining, quite the contrary. Every year the wood from our trees and forests gives us millions of tons of paper.

The value of forests and trees, 'however, does not rest only in the timber they yield. Man is beginning to realize with ever- growing awareness the other functions of the forest And its vegetation. Today we know how important trees and forests are in water management and in preventing soil erosion And the importance of parks and woodlands for man's health and recreation cannot be over-stressed.

Broad-leaved trees grown under the same conditions have a short, thick trunk with a broad, low-placed crown. Only certain light-demanding trees such as the pine, larch, birch and aspen, have the lower half of the bole clear of branches and the crown placed high even when grown in the open.

Webkinz toys originally released by Ganz company on April 29, 2005 have been one of the most popular toys online. They have been one of the best seller toys in both eBay and Amazon, the two popular and great online shopping stores.

The toys are akin to many other small plush toys. However, each of the toy has a unique "Secret Code" attached which allows access to the "Webkinz World" website where user can get virtual version of the toy.

There are so many things you can actually do with the toys. If you finally get an online version of a certain toy in the Webkinz World, you will get the chance to play online games, adopt new pets, answer general knowledge questions, and join daily activities which will give you the chance to earn money called KinzCash. You can then spend your KinzCash at the W Shop where you can purchase items like furniture for your toy's room.

Items that can be purchased in the online world are rare and exclusive. Some are for free and can be obtained by registering other Webkinz accessories purchased in the real world. But some should be purchased and first would require you to develop a friendship with the Curio Shop owner.

Some items are also collectible. Like for an instance, recipes that are given away through cookbooks or one of the TV Shows called The Secret Chef. You can also get some gems but can only be mined at the Curio Shop once a day. A full set of gems are turned into the Webkinz Crown of Wonder.

However, Webkinz toys should be played under supervision of parents. Some kids tend to forget about their homework and cannot be stopped from playing. They tend to overuse the toys and become addicted to them.

Three Great Performers

By John Charles

If you were asked to name the three most influential guitarists of the past 40 years I wonder what names you would come up with?

Perhaps you would think of Frank Zappa, or Chuck Berry, or perhaps Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger, or maybe it would be Chet Atkins or Barney Kessel.

No question about it, they are all great guitarists, but there are three names which you have not mentioned that I would go for.

So who would I vote for? These three, but not necessarily in any particular order Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck.

Eric and Jeff are still going great guns, but I regret to say that Jimi died in 1970.

Let me now give you some background information on my three choices.

The first person that I would like to talk about is Eric Clapton. At the age of 18, in 1963, Eric joined the Yardbirds who at the time were an R&B group, however after just 2 short years Eric left as he did not like the direction the Yardbirds were going.

He then moved on to John Mayall's Bluesbreakers for a short while before setting the supergroup known worldwide as Cream.

In 1968 Cream broke up, much to the sorrow of so many people, and Eric formed Blind Faith along with his former partner in Cream, Ginger Baker, and Steve Winwood.

Unfortunately Blind Faith did not last as long as everyone expected, and when they disbanded Eric formed Derek and the Dominoes, and whilst he was with this group he released my favourite record "Layla".

Unfortunately Eric found himself sinking into drink and drugs and it got so bad that he eventually had to pull out of the music business, at least for a while.

Happily Eric is now back in full swing, and we his fans are all expectantly awaiting the next great thing from him.

Well next up comes Jimi Hendrix, born 1942, and died 1970. A brief life of just 28 years, but what a name he made for himself.

But during that brief time he established himself as a unbelievably talented performer, considered by many to be Rock's greatest guitarist.

Its hard to believe that this great guitarist was for a time just a sideman to a number of famous names including Little Richard, the Isley Brothers and Ike and Tina Turner, but he did not stay a sideman for long, his talent would not allow it!

It was not long before Jimi had moved to the big lights of New York, and one night, whilst playing in Greenwich village, he was approached by a member of the British Rock group, the Animals.

And before long Jimi was packing his bags and moving over to play the scene in London.

He was a most amazing guitarist, and an incredible showman, and he became an almost instant success.

Hey Joe was his debut single, and it still sounds great today, and in 1967 he cut his first album, Are You Experienced.

His playing on stage was something which you had to see, to believe. He would play the guitar behind his back, and sometimes he would pluck the strings with his teeth. He oftentimes would smash his guitar against his amplifiers in order to get a certain effect, and sometimes even set light to them.

If you saw him on stage you would never forget the experience.

His death in 1970 due to a drugs overdose was an immense tradegy to everyone.

This brings me on finally to my last choice, and that is Jeff Beck, a musician not as well known as Eric and Jimi, but a musician of immense talent.

1944 saw the birth of Jeff in a town called Wallington, in England. He played with the interesting character Screaming Lord Sutch, and with the Yardbirds

When his time with the Yardbirds finished, in 1966, he formed his own band the aptly named Jeff Beck Group.

He spent some time working with Rod Stewart until Rod left to join the Small Faces.

He has played with many people including Mick Jagger on his 1987 album Primitive Cool.

Not before time, a grammy was awarded to Jeff for his album Guitar Shop.

Jeff is thankfully still performing today, and I heard him not too long ago giving a thrilling live performance and proving himself to be a musician of tremendous ability..

This has been the first of a series of articles on great performers. If you would like to be kept updated as new articles come out then please go to my website and email me, asking to be kept updated.

Oregano

By Jason Ledger

The existence of olives as food is the result of sheer chance combined with a stroke of genius. Present-day olive trees are apparently descended from a wild tree of Greek origin. The first such individual must have been the result of a chance mutation, some time as far back as 3000 B.C., and all the olive trees raised nowadays are its offspring, multiplied by man.

The fresh leaves of the curly variety are used to decorate window displays by butchers and fishmongers. Parsley did not become a culinary herb until the Middle Ages when Charlemagne had it raised in his vegetable gardens, after which it rapidly became an essential part of all vegetable dishes. It reached England in the 16th century and was brought to America by the settlers.

Though a traditional flavouring of Italian cookery, oregano is widely used throughout Europe and is commonly available in shops. It is one of the most widely-used seasonings in Mexico, perhaps because it grows wild there too. It is generally used dried, even though the fresh herb has a more penetrating flavour. It is very good togethei- with tomatoes, cheese, vegetables (especially beans), meat and fish.

Pickled green olives are prepared from unripe fruits, black olives from ripe fruits. Both may he added to cold hors d'ceuvres and salads, as well as to hot dishes, mainly to roast poultry, cooked vegetables and Italian pizza. Not only the pickled olives but also the fine oil obtained by pressing the ripe fruits is a flavouring. It is yellowish to greenish and has a very delicate flavour and aroma.

In cookery the ripe seeds arc used to make poppy-seed cakes and fillings for pastries. Cooking and baking makes their pleasant, nut-like flavour more pronounced. Poppy-seeds are also sprinkled on rolls and buns. Ground seeds are added to pungent herb mixtures not only for their flavour but also to improve the consistency and increase the weight of the mixtures. This is much better than diluting them with starchy flour, as is often done by European producers.

The type species from which the currently cultivated varieties are derived was already grown in Europe and Asia Minor for its oily seeds in the Stone Age. The opium poppy made its appearance in the first century A.D. and its cultivation, this time for its narcotic effects, rapidly spread to Italy, Egypt and Arabia, and later in the 9th century farther east to Iran, India and China.

Not so Secret Digital Photography Tricks

By Russell Roberds

Have you ever wanted to refine your picture taking ability, but didn't know where to even begin? Well, what if I revealed to you that in just a few seconds, you could be applying some wonderful digital photography tricks that will take your photos from all right to fabulous!

If you are like me, you have thrown away a lot of time and sometimes a lot of money taking photos, that are, well, not that impressive. After countless years (too many to bring up), I finally decided to do something about it. I read a couple of books, magazines and took some classes to improve my digital photography. What I learned is that there are numerous digital photography tricks that are so simple, I picked them up in nothing flat and created amazing results.

I will not pledge that you will be a superstar from these digital photography tricks, but you will identify results from your very first picture.

1. Fill the frame: One of the simplest digital photography tricks to understand, but harder to do. When you take a photo, how small is your subject in the frame? When I look at photographs that I snapped years ago, the subject constantly seemed to be taking up very little of the frame. Well, by filling the frame, you focus on the principal object. Also, on the occasion that the principal object takes up most or all of the frame, you eliminate any unattractive objects that otherwise might have made their way into the picture (i.e. the laundry, trash, signs, other people, the neighbors cat...). The criteria that I now put to work is if you imagine you are close enough, your not. If you imagine you are too close, then take the photo, you are the perfect distance away.

2. Would you repeat that?: An easy to grasp digital photography trick is repetition. Repeating arrangements, colors or textures make fabulous photos! You can find many repeating patterns in nature. One way to enhance a pattern picture is to find a pattern and then an object that defies the pattern, like a carton full of red apples with one yellow one. The odd man out pulls the viewer's eye into the picture and moreover composes a contradiction.

3. One of the digital photography tricks used a lot is reflection: The earth is awash of reflective objects and faces; water, glass, chrome and mirrors to denote just a few. They alter our orderly perception by bending the true perception. If you take a photo of the reflection of an object instead of the original, it will create a deeper sense of illusion to viewers looking at your photograph.

4. Last yet not the least of the digital photography tricks is to construct a frame within the frame. I am not saying a photo frame, I am talking about generating a frame encompassing your principal object using objects in the area around your subject. One idea is to locate yourself on one side of a door frame and your subject on the opposite side. Shoot the photo so that the door frame is around the edges of the view finder. The picture will pull the viewers eye to the interior of the frame and to your subject. It may also construct extra depth in the photo.

These are a sprinkling of the simple approaches that master photographers put to work to acquire those exceptional shots in magazines, books and on the web. My hope is that you will put to use these digital photography tricks to refine your picture taking skills. Happy shooting and say cheese (make mine Gouda)

Growing Fig Tree in Your Garden

By Jerry Peterson

The sour or cooking cherries have to be dealt with separately as their culture is quite different from the sweet cherries. I find that they prefer to grow on the mulched system rather than in grass. They can therefore be surrounded by straw a foot deep or by sedge peat an inch deep. They bear their fruits largely on young whippy wood and they do well on a north, shady wall. In fact, the Morello cherry is the fruit for a north wall.

Planting can be done any time in the winter, but it is best to plant the moment all the leaves have fallen in November. I plant trees as two-year-olds; that is, two years from layering, for he invariably propagated his trees that way though they will strike quite well from cuttings.

As the short growths made each year are those that bear the fruits, the only pruning done should be a cutting back hard to form new branches as replacements. Figs seem to have wood buds almost anywhere on their branches and so one can prune to almost any point. For the first five or six years little pruning is necessary, but once quite big trees have been formed, about 25 per cent of the wood should be removed each November, this being done by cutting down one quite large branch almost to its base. This I find it gives better results than cutting out a number of widely distributed branches.

The great thing is to get the tree to produce hard, well-ripened wood. Some gardeners in the south-west of England do give their figs cesspool water in the summer, for though figs appreciate dry growing weather that goes with a drought, they do seem to appreciate water at that time and maybe, therefore, the cesspool water my friend gives in a droughty season does good from the point of view of moisture and not so much from the point of view of the plant foods.

Pruning is indeed a very difficult job because, as has already been said, the fruit is borne on the length of thin young wood which grew during the previous season. On a fan-trained tree, therefore, one has to be constantly cutting away the older wood and tying in the new wood. With bush trees, it is advisable to cut back some of the older branches each season the moment the leaves have fallen, and then, if there are any young growths in the centre of the bush, these will have to be cut back in February, the pruning cut being made just above a pointed single shoot bud. It is the double buds that are the fruit buds.

Anyway, it helps if the roots can be restricted, and so many dig out a hole a yard square and to the depth of 2 feet 6 inches, and then put into the bottom of the hole brickbats, trodden in tightly, to ensure good drainage and to discourage the growth of tap roots. Squares of asbestos roofing sheets cut to size can then be placed in position to line the sides of the square hole before the soil is put back.

Japanese Matsuri: Arizona

By Ian Kleine

Did you know? Arizona has been holding the Japanese Matsuri for almost 25 years now!

Matsuri is 'festival' in Japanese, so it would be semantically wrong to dub the festival as 'the Matsuri festival.' The Matsuri of Arizona is a very extensive festival to celebrate the culture of the Land of the Rising Sun in American earth. And what a very wonderful festival it is.

They have tons, and I mean, lots and lots of events. They have the famous Kyo Rei Taiko Kai, or the beating of the Japanese drums in the streets. The ondo, or the japanese folk dance in the streets as well. There is also the modern "J-Rock" fest, more drummers and even hands-on demos for the interested individual. Very exotic and very nice to look at. It's an explosion of music and dancing for the whole day and up until night.

There's also the Budokai, which is nihonggo for martial arts tournament. It is a highly interesting competition open for all forms of martial arts. There are displays of katana drawing (shinkendo), spear play (naginata jutsu), and fencing (kendo). Hopefully, by the next few festivals, they could include other forms of weaponry like the Japanese bow, or those cool ninja stars and sickle-chains. I have always wondered about those ever since I was a wee little.

For the kids, there is the cosplay (kosupure) or costume play, held by the local comics organization. While the older folks can have a hand with the weapons, the kids can do well with their favorite anime characters coming to life (made by fans, for fans).

The event lasts for two days, but each hour is packed with enough events to make you go Japanese. It's highly organized, and the publicity is good. Tourists in Arizona are advised to join in the festivities, if not for the sights and then at least for the sounds. I'm sure everyone will love it.

The Weather and Your Garden

By Kristen Edward

The weather will be a major influence on the design and planting of your garden. If you live in an area where the proportion of cold, wet days is high, you should site your vegetable patch near the house, or at least make sure there is a dry path to it so that it will he easy to pick a winter cabbage.

A well planned garden should make the most of variations in the microclimate. The plants behind the pond and under the tree-Himalayan poppies, rhubarb, hostas and primula -all like shade and moisture; the fruit trees are trained up against the wall, since brick stores and re-radiates solar heat long after the sun has gone off the garden; and the vegetables are planted on a south-facing slope to catch the full benefit of the sun's rays.

Shade-loving plants tend to be the ones with relatively large leaves, since these become hotter than small leaves when exposed to sunlight. While plants and soil absorb heat from the sun during the day, at night they give off heat into the atmosphere. On cloudy nights, heat radiated from the ground is partly reflected back again, so that temperatures do not increase too rapidly. On clear winter nights, however, nearly all the heat is lost to space and the ground temperature falls rapidly until it is lower than that of the air. The soil then takes heat from the air at ground level, resulting in freezing.

Although a panoramic view is a great asset, the site from which you enjoy it is often exposed and windswept. As well as offering shelter, planting in the foreground (right) may improve such a view by breaking it up into a series of images. A wall with a window in it (far right) performs a similar function and literally frames the view

Although sufficient wind is therefore desirable to prevent frost developing, high wind speeds can result in the atmosphere trying to make more water evaporate from the leaves than can be supplied from the roots. This is known as water stress and it stunts the growth of plants. Of course, too much wind can also have a more directly disastrous effect by uprooting plants.

By contrast, the design shown on the right holds the eye within the garden, with the pool and fountain creating an internal point of interest garden. So the curved bed (in the right foreground of the picture) has been kept deliberately low to allow a view through to the neighbouring garden and the trees.

Recommended Steps If You Meet A Car Accident On The Motorway

By David Halbert

Imagine, you're driving on a motorway, and coming back from a family vacation or a business trip when suddenly you find yourself indulged in a motorway accident. While this is one of the most distressing situation that can happen to anyone, you need to know a few things to make sure you take the right steps at that time regarding your health, safety, and insurance information.

1. Stay calm. Calming down allows you to have a look around and figure out what actually happened. Get each person out of the vehicles, and make sure everyone is not badly wounded. If anyone is severely injured, call an ambulance. Call the police as well. Either you could use your cell phone, or a roadside emergency box for informing police or calling the ambulance.

2. If you could just warn the imminent traffic on both sides of the road about the accident s to be able to avoid further damage. Turn hazard lights on if they could still work, and in case they don't work and your accident spot is around a curve, then move the vehicles away from the road if you can, or have someone stand before the curve to inform people.

3. If because of the accident there is a leakage of petrol or any other fluids from the vehicle, tell people to leave the place as soon as possible as it could burst into flames. If anybody is in it, try and get them out of the vehicle, but not at the cost of your own life.

4. Do not move wounded people around unless there is danger of a fire. There could be broken bones, internal bleeding, or anything else you could make worse by moving them. Leave them as they are, and wait for the ambulance.

5. In case you are having a camera, take pictures of the cars so that it could be used as evidence in case of an insurance claim. Try to exchange information with the other driver, and make sure you retain the full information and clear details of what exactly happened. Get the license plate number of the other car as well. Talk to the eyewitnesses and note their names and numbers so that you can get in touch with them later on if required. Do not admit your fault or talk about the accident with the other driver involved, as anything you say could be used against you.

6. As the authorities are able to make it to the site, give them complete information leaving nothing out voluntarily. This would help them in making a report of all that happened. This report could be used as evidence in case of an insurance claim. Make sure that you are present at the site till this step is complete.

7. Once you reach home, just call your insurance agent and inform him or her what happened. Send over pictures and a report of what happened, and arrange a meeting with them to discuss next steps. You will either file a claim with your own insurance company, or ask the other driver's company to pay for your damages if the accident was not your fault. Talk about this with you agent.

This information would help you in taking the right steps in case of an accident in order to stay safe and get possible compensation for it afterwards.

He or she feels that doing something else whilst driving or taking their eyes off the road for a while is not a big issue. What they are required to realize is that, it is this microsecond in which most of the accidents take place.

For example, most people change CDs while driving. While they use the CD play to insert or eject the CD, they have to shift their attention from the road to the CD player. Although this process may take as little as 3-4 seconds, but this little time is enough to lead you to a car accident. You never know that the moment you take your eyes off the road, someone from the side or the back may bump into your car, or you may hit something unexpected on the road. It may be counted as a simple mistake but you do not know how grave it may turn out to be for you.

For this reason, many countries have banned using cell phones while driving. Instead of hand held devices, the use of headphones or wireless devices are being encouraged in order to minimize the chances of car accidents. Although, using a cell phone while you drive is not something wrong in itself, but as it diverts your attention from driving, this practice can lead you to serious problems.

A further simple mistake that could be a reason of a car accident is looking at something on the road or in close proximity. Numerous people are interested to take a look at something attention-grabbing happening on the road. They may hit into another car, or someone may knock them when they take their eyes off the road to look at something. Though it could appear to be a minor distraction, yet it is sufficient enough to lead you to a car accident.

Besides, a terrible mistake that may seem trivial is to drink alcohol while driving or before driving. One gets drowsy, cannot focus on the road and judge distances when he or she is drunk.

All these little mistakes can lead you to grave car accidents. You need to bear in mind that life is valued and you cannot put it into jeopardy as you do not get to have another one ever again.

What is Chives?

By Timothy Tungsten

Garlic is native to the steppes of the Djungar and Kirghiz region of central Asia, from where the Mongols soon introduced it to China. It was also cultivated on a large scale in ancient Egypt.

In the year 812 Charlemagne, aware of its culinary and medicinal properties (the essential oil it contains is still used to relieve flatulence), ordered that it be grown on his estates. It was believed to silence rumblings in the stomach, stop hiccups, and prevent the formation of intestinal gas; burnt seeds if placed on a wound were said to promote rapid healing. Nowadays dill is naturalized and grown not only throughout Europe but also in America and the West Indies.

Nowadays garlic is widely used as seasoning throughout the world, but it is used most by the peoples of southern Europe, north Africa and South America. It plays an important role in lands noted for their excellent cuisine, from France to China. Its uses are many: crushed together with salt in green salads; as seasoning for sauces, vegetables and meat dishes (beef and mutton), sausages and salamis, and fish. Besides being a seasoning it also has many important medicinal properties; it prevents flatulence and destroys intestinal parasites, checks the growth of bacteria, and is used in the treatment of arteriosclerosis. The chief exporting countries are USA (California), Egypt, Bulgaria, Hungary and Taiwan.

Dill is exceptionally good when combined with cream sauces and soups, cream cheese and butter, or with vinegar salad dressings. It is also used as a seasoning with raw vegetables, boiled meat and fish. A simple but tasty dish is boiled and buttered new potatoes or string beans with dill. As a rule it is not used with other herbs because of its distinctive aroma.

In order to have fresh dill in the garden the whole year round it should be sown in succession from March till late July. The leaves will be ready for picking within six weeks of sowing. Dill is an annual herb and plants sown in spring produce seeds in the autumn of the same year.

Wild chives occur in several forms: with leaves rounded to greatly flattened and flowers ranging in colour from white to dark pink. Unlike the leaves, the flowering stems are not hollow. Cultivated varieties are generally larger and more robust but wild chives make an equally good seasoning.

What is Dill?

By Timothy Tungsten

Dill is native to the Mediterranean region and its history goes way back to ancient times. It is mentioned in Egyptian inscriptions where it goes by the name of `ammisi'. The Greeks and Romans, who spread it as far as the northern Alps during their campaigns, called it `anethon' from which is derived the botanical name.

They are frost-resistant and their leaves may be snipped the whole year long without affecting the plants in any way. However, they should be fed frequently and should not be cut too close to the ground so as to avoid damaging the growth centres. Chives may be propagated from seed, but home-growers usually increase them by splitting up older clumps and replanting the offsets, which gives earlier yields. The only requirement is plenty of light.

People who are staying at a golf course's own resort generally get first serve when choosing tee times. If it's really important to you to get the tee time you desire, it may be worth it to you to stay at the resort instead of a less expensive hotel. Either way, you are sure to find refreshment and restoration when taking golf holidays.

Box Office Hits To Download From The Web

By Brian Hines

I have made a sampling of the movies released this year (2008). I have chosen a few of the movies that I think you might like. I hope you find a couple of movies that are good viewing.

10,000 B.C.: This movie takes us back 1,000's of years. When a warlike tribe storms the Yaghai people, they ride off with some of the people, including the lovely Evolet. A young hunter named D'Leh, who is in love with her, leads a group of hunters to pursue the warlords, and save her, and the rest of the captured tribe members.

TWENTY ONE: This movie tells the actual tale of M.I.T. wiz kids who built a team of blackjack winners. This team of blackjack players learned to beat the game, and then performed an assault on the casinos. To beat the games in Vegas, where players who beat the game can be banned from playing, they had to change casinos often, and disguise themselves, so they wouldn't get caught. This movie is based on the best selling book that tells how the M.I.T. teams made millions playing blackjack.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO: The bills aren't getting paid and Zack and Miri, roomies who have been friends since grade school, are desperate to make some money. What will they do? Simple, make a dirty movie. As you might expect this situation makes for a fun movie.

JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH: On a quest to find his missing brother, a science professor travels to Iceland, and that sends him into the depths of our planet. This is a remake of the 1959 film that was created from the classic novel by highly acclaimed author Jules Verne. This film stars Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutchinson.

Jumper: Nearing death by drowning, David Rice (Hayden Christensen) learns something incredible. He can actually teleport himself to anywhere he desires to be, anytime he wants. Later, he becomes aware that he is not the only one that has this capability. After he becomes used to jumping around the world, he finds out that there are those that think jumpers are a threat, and need to be eliminated. He must fight for his life, as the hunters try to track him down.

THE CHRONICALS OF NARNIA, PRINCE CASPIAN: Just one year has passed in there "regular" lives, when Edmund, Peter, Susan, and Lucy are mysteriously pulled back into Narnia. Prince Caspian has blown Susan's magic horn, praying that he will be saved. 100's of years have passed since they left Narnia, but they now return to save Narnia from the evil Telmarines. With the help of the brave warriors of Narnia, they will fight for the future of Narnia.

ROLE MODELS: Danny and Wheeler, a couple of energy drink sales people, are facing jail time after trashing the company truck. The option to get out of going to prison is by doing community service. They are assigned to work as mentors with difficult children in a big brother type situation. This is a good situation for some good laughs.

WALL-E: This film is an animated, comedy, adventure, sci-fi. Earth has been left behind, an uninhabitable wasteland. Waste removal robot, Wall-E, has been left to clean up the mess. When a recon bot (Eve) appears, checking for any signs of life, Walle-E has a friend. When the spaceship returns for Eve, Wall-E stows away, and thus starts the adventure of his robot life.

TROPIC THUNDER: Overloaded with good actors this movie is a classic parody of popular war films. Things are going bad, so to get his super star cast to make a first rate war movie, the now venturesome director into the wild jungle, and leaves them there by themselves. The plan is to scare them into the realism needed for a great war film, which hidden cameras will capture. When the director steps on an old land mine and dies, the actors are now truly on their own, and they are convinced everything is just an act, when things start to get very real. Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., and Tom Cruise star.

Many people will buy films, so they can see them in the comfort of their living rooms. An increasingly popular way to get movies is by downloading them directly from the internet. Online providers have websites that offer downloading of almost any film you can think of.

Soil for Vegetables in Your Garden

By Stephen Cassandra

Most vegetables need a good depth of topsoil which is rich in humus and all need certain amount of space. They should be grown in some sort of rotation. A vegetable plot need not be screened, as is often suggested, for rows of neat vegetables can be attractive. Admittedly there are times in winter when they look straggly-hut a run of box edging should solve the problem.

A greenhouse naturally needs full sun, good access to it and preferably a hard surface area around it, as it soon becomes another centre of activity within the garden. if you can combine it with or site it next to the tool shed, or any other necessary small structure, so much the better. When wrongly sited, greenhouses can dominate the whole garden and, despite recent attempts to improve their appearance, they are seldom handsome structures. If the greenhouse cannot be a lean-to or an extension of the house, try to site the freestanding building, running east to west, to one side of the main view.

If you have an oil tank, it should have easy access for the feed pipe which should not have to trail all over the garden. Coal or log storage and rubbish bins should be readily accessible from the house, preferably under some sort of covered way. The compost bin should be screened. If all the vegetable waste is to go on to it it should not he too far away, but neither should it be too close since rotting vegetables smell.

A space for any large vehicles to be parked, such as a boat or a caravan as well as a car, should be allowed for at this initial planning stage.

There are many varieties of lettuce worth growing and a few outdoor tomato plants in a sheltered place can be rewarding. Fruit bushes can be trained along a fence or grown against a wall, where they will benefit from the heat retained and gently released by the wall.

If possible, allow enough room not only to get out of the car without landing in a rose bed, but also to wash the car down; do not forget provision for a water point and for drainage. If there is not room to turn the car round, you will need to leave clear lines of vision for reversing out.

Choosing The Perfect Perfume

By Tim

Picking the right perfume can be a lot of fun, too bad people tend to pick the wrong ones. Do not despair, the following are just a few tips and tricks in choosing the right cologne and perfume to suit you. And you don't have to spend a lot of money, too.

The first step in choosing the right cologne or perfume for you is to find out what type of fragrance you like. Don't be swayed by your friends recommendations of which brands have the best perfumes, pick the ones you like, and remember that each scent means something.

The perfect scent should compliment your personality and your own style: are you sassy or classy? Or perhaps you're more adventurous? Most companies release a variety of colognes and perfumes to suit different types of personalities.

You can also pick different scents depending on the occassion or your mood. You can match different scents based on their lightness or depth.

One thing you can do the next time you go to a store, is to test their wide range of perfumes and colognes. Since fragrance reacts to a person's own unique body chemistry, what may smell great on your friend might not necessarily smell good on you.

That's because the chemicals in your body can alter the scent of the cologne or perfume. The problem is, most people never bother bother to check how a scent would smell on them, and instead rely on merely sniffing it from a testing paper or the bottle. You should spritz it on your wrist, and let the smell linger for a minute before smelling. Only then can you find out if it's an ideal match, since most perfumes will remain on your body even after several hours.

Buying the right perfume or cologne is a lot like buying the clothes for your wardrobe, you have to try them all to find the right one for you. Choosing the right cologne or perfume can make a whole lot of difference to your day, and your sense of style. So don't be swayed by those ads or pick the most expensive ones, instead choose the cologne and perfume that's just right for you.

What should you be aware of when purchasing custom earplugs?

By Dionne Payn

Custom earplugs can vary in terms of quality and value for money because unfortunately not all manufacturers aim for the same standards. Here are a few simple questions which you should ask a hearing protection company before you agree to any purchase to help ensure that you are buying the very best earplugs in your price range.

What are your custom earplugs made from?

In terms of comfort and flexibility, the best material to look out for is medical grade silicon. Some custom earplugs are made from acrylic, which can be cold in the ear and inflexible with body movement.

This means your hearing protection doesnt create a perfect seal in your ear canal, and will not be 100% effective at reducing noise levels.

What is the lifespan of your custom earplugs?

When compared to the traditional foam based earplugs, you will find that custom earplugs can offer great value for money and fantastic long term savings. Of course, the initial cost of purchasing custom earplugs is higher, but they will last for years. To make your money stretch the furthest you should only consider custom earplugs which have a lifespan of at least 4 years.

The human ear is constantly growing and changing shape, so to ensure that your earplugs are always creating the best seal with your ears it is recommended that you replace your custom earplugs after 4 years. This helps to make sure that your hearing is always getting the most effective protection.

Are there any guarantees offered with your custom earplugs?

Custom earplugs may not be suitable for everyone, so always enquire about whether there is a guarantee offered, and what the terms of the guarantee are.

Ideally, your hearing protection provider will offer a time period within which if you change your mind you can receive your money in full. In addition, look for a company who will replace or repair your hearing protectors for free, if the material or filters are found to be defective within the first year of purchase.

Are there different levels of attenuation (noise reduction)?

Different working environments pose different levels of risk to workers, and therefore need differing levels of hearing protection. Ask whether your hearing proection is available with a choice of filters so that you can tailor your earplugs to match the location in which you work.

For example, musicians often have different requirements for hearing protection compared to construction workers, and the custom earplugs provided would be different in each case.

What levels of customer care and after-sales service do you offer?

The effectiveness of custom earplugs is greatly increased when training is provided. Look for a company that has an after sales fitting service and provides training in the use of your custom hearing protectors.

Ask your hearing protection provider whether they are happy to adjust the fit or replace your custom earplugs for free, if you find that they are uncomfortable in any way.

Comic Convention in San Diego: The Buyer

By Ian Kleine

The Comic-Con International: San Diego (or the San Diego Comic-Con as it is more commonly known) is a yearly fan convention event founded by Shel Dorf and a group of people from San Diego. It spans to nearly forty years now, having been started during 1970. Traditionally, it is a four day event held in summer at San Diego, California - San Diego Convention Center.

The seller, should prepare for a lot of things when doing business in the Comic Con. First, you would need a booth to sell your stuff. Depending on the type of product you have (comics, figurines, general fan stuff) will give you what type of booth you need.

If you're the small type press or fan publishing company (comics, magazine, etc. ), the Small Press Area is for you. The table has reduced prices and rates, suitable for small publishers. The group responsible for receiving would be the Comic-Con's Small Press Committee, who reviews the applications and decides which publishers will be invited to display in their area. Most small-time publishers have started with the Small Press. Who knows, you might hit it big in the Comic-Con, where you are assured exposure to both your market and the big-time media.

For comic artists, the Artist's Alley is the place for you. First, you will need a valid California Sellers Permit/ Temporary Sellers Permit to be secured from the city however. Second, the table is where your 'booth' is. Therefore, all transactions will be held only, and only, in the booth. Original art work only, any copied or plagiarized artwork is subject to penalties and possible legal actions if it was copyrighted. Other information will be made available if you are able to obtain a space.

I think trying out for the Comic-Con will be the big break most aspiring artists nowadays need.

Morton Pumpkin Festival

By Ian Kleine

The Morton Pumpkin Festival is a pumpkin festival held in the city of Morton, Illinois. The dates weren't specific back then, but now, the festival has an agreed date that runs on Wednesday up till Saturday during the middle of September. The city of Morton has earned its name 'the Pumpkin Capital of the World' due to this festival.

The event is a large affair around Morton. Around less than one thousand volunteers handle the food alone. The money earned, of course, goes to the community. The local businesses in the area (whether small enterprise or franchised) help with the volunteers, though they usually go with helping with the breakfast and dinners. It's a hand-in-hand affair when festival time arrives.

The main theme of this festival, is of course, the orange-colored gourd, the pumpkin. Most of the attendees come here for the pumpkin-themed food. Pumpkin chili, pumpkin juice, pumpkin bread, pumpkin-nickel (that's a joke), pumpkin caramels and shakes, pumpkin ice creams and fudge. Basically, turn everything you can into something pumpkin-y.

The main attraction however, is the Punkin' Chunkin' Contest that was based off a similar event in Lewes, Delaware; the Punkin' Chunkin' Festival. It is Morton that holds the record for the farthest punkin' ever flown. The winners are then declared at the end of the day.

Punkin' Chunkin' has a lot of weird, but very innovative ideas. From trebuchets, catapults, air cannons, air guns, centrifugators and etc. The record holder is the Q-36 Pumpkin Modulator, a 100-foot air cannon that had the world record (1,430m).

If you're planning to visit Illinois sometime around September, be sure to drop by the area. The food is enough to keep most tourists and well-wishers preoccupied, and the chunkin' to keep kids (and a lot of the adults) entertained. Just don't forget to bring your umbrella in case it rains.
